Our beneficiaries on a trip to Osijek
07 June 2025

On Sunday, May 18th, we had the joy of organizing a trip to Osijek for 191 people—including asylum seekers, individuals under international and temporary protection, foreign workers, students, and returnees to Croatia. This trip is part of our regular program, which we organize twice a year with the goal of strengthening social inclusion, mutual understanding, and familiarization with the cultural and social life in Croatia.
We began the day with a guided tour of Osijek, led warmly and professionally by volunteers from the Student Catholic Center (SKAC) Osijek. As we walked through the old town center—Tvrđa—and along the banks of the Drava River, our participants had the opportunity to learn about the city’s rich history and experience Osijek as a space of openness, hospitality, and encounter. The volunteers were much more than guides—they became a bridge between cultures, experiences, and languages, creating a sense of togetherness from the very start.
In the afternoon, we celebrated Holy Mass in the beautiful Co-Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, where all those who wished to participate found a moment of peace, reflection, and spiritual connection.
The rest of the day unfolded in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere—filled with conversations, new friendships, and simple shared moments that, if only for a day, set aside the challenges of everyday life. For many of our users, especially those who have only recently arrived in Croatia, experiences like this represent an important step toward a sense of belonging and acceptance.
We sincerely thank all the volunteers and partners who helped make this gathering possible—especially the volunteers from SKAC Osijek and the students from the Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Zagreb. Thank you for your time, generosity, and open hearts.
We believe that it is through such small but meaningful steps that we build a society that recognizes the value of every person and their place in the community.
